Interseeding Camelina and Rye in Soybean with Varying Maturity Provides Soil Cover without Affecting Soybean Yield

Low adoption to utilize cover crops interseeded into soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.), in the northern Plains USA, is due a short growing season and few adapted winter-hardy species. The objective was evaluate impact of winter camelina (Camelina sativa Crantz) rye (Secale cereale L.) using different relative maturities on yield, canopy coverage, spring crop biomass, subsequent wheat (Triticum aestivum yield. Cover early-maturing (0.4–0.8) cultivars had more fall coverage compared with 0.9 maturity cultivar, but biomass similar for all maturities. yield cultivar significantly higher, 2365 kg ha−1 2037 0.4 cultivar. Rye outperformed higher (15 vs. 7%), (16% 4%), (313 100 dry matter). Spring wheat, after rye, yielded 90% check. It not recommended plant following there no negative effect from camelina. Interseeding possible needs further research optimize interseeding systems.
